Korean Perilla (Perilla frutescens)

The Green Perilla, also known as Shiso or Beefsteak Plant, is a fragrant annual herb in the Lamiaceae (mint) family, with a unique basil-meets-mint flavor profile. The antimicrobial plant is known for its herby, complex flavor and delicate serrated leaves. Native to Asia, the highly ornamental Green Perilla is useful for a variety of reasons including food coloring, omega-3 fatty acid rich oil extraction, and birdseed, but most popularly to wrap meat, rice and veggies in Korean BBQ!
